Hello, Hafa Adai, and Ciao,
I am Ms. Dåna Detterich (pronounced Dawna Deetrick), and I am thrilled to introduce myself as part of your academic journey. My heritage is a unique blend I fondly refer to as CHamilian-American, embracing CHamoru, Sicilian, and American roots. This diverse background instills in me a profound respect for our elders, a commitment to our community, and a responsibility towards our environment.
Raised in Anaheim, CA, I navigated my schooling within the Catholic education system, from kindergarten through twelfth grade. My work ethic was ignited early, and my first job was at none other than Disneyland, truly the Happiest Place on Earth! Over the years, I've also enjoyed roles as a gymnastics instructor, cheerleading coach, and sales associate. More personally, I am a mother to a wonderful son and an aunt to seventeen incredible nieces and nephews.
My professional journey began in graphic and website design, a thrilling field at the dawn of the digital age. However, the impactful events of 9/11 inspired a shift in my career path, leading me back to academia to study history and fulfill my longstanding dream of teaching.
I earned my degree and teaching credential from California State University, Fullerton, which became a second home to me. As I continue to nurture my passion for history, I remain dedicated to the education field, planning to teach for many years to come.
Please feel free to reach out via my teacher page or learn more about my journey at my personal statement website: https://curiousbirder.weebly.com/.
Thank you for your time and interest, Si Yu'os Ma'åse, and Grazzi!
