Theme #2: Immigration (1-2 weeks)
Questions: What obstacles do immigrants encounter and how can we help them to overcome them? 

Purpose: To practice the skills of a social scientist so that you can become a real world problem solver and ethical member of society.

Doing: You will.. listen to your peers and solve problems together, use instructional rubrics to guide your learning, read directions and follow them to complete a project by yourself or with your peers, find the central ideas and information in texts that will help you find problems and create solutions, and you will present your findings to your fellow citizens.

MISSION 1: Read/Understand
Read closely and analyze video, various texts, and statistics about immigration in America.

Learning outcomes: 
1. Can analyze secondary source texts to find central ideas and information that will help you solve real world problems.
2. Can ask relevant questions to improve your understanding.

3. Can clearly connect content and ideas, advanced comprehension of at and above grade level texts.
MISSION 2:
Write/Make
Write expository texts, including a narration and an evaluation of historically significant events. 

Learning outcomes:

1. Use the Google Drive to produce and publish writing and present ideas.
2. Can predict some possible outcomes of your solutions to immigration problems.
3. Can write using academic and content vocabulary.
4. Can write an appropriate citation.
MISSION 3:
Listen/Speak
Listen and speak to your peers and Ms. Detterich during collaboration and scholarly discussions. Use Habits of Mind.

Learning outcomes:

1. Can verbalize what you have learned or what you are learning, such as academic and content vocabulary, historical reading, writing, and thinking skills, and content knowledge.

2. Can verbally articulate ideas, confusion and questions, predictions, and solutions.
